This PSA MINT 9 ranks among the best examples of a terrific 1960 Topps set, a tribute to the original collector’s eye for quality. Each card from that collection offered in our auction ranks in the top tier and this clean, beautiful single is no exception. The #542 population report shows none higher!
Ken Hamlin picked up this seventh series card as the everyday 1960 shortstop for Kansas City, a perennial second division club in this era, who no doubt appreciated stability at key positions. Ken might have stayed to develop with the Athletics if not for 1961 league changes, when first the expansion Angels and then the new Senators each rotated him through their lineups. While his hitting improved notably as timed passed, playing opportunities varied, leaving us to wonder what might have been if he had stayed with one franchise to start with!
