Rookie Mike Cuellar left Cuba for pro baseball at just the right time, dodging the shut down of domestic leagues that followed Castro's rise to power. The repeated photo used on this card reflects his brief stint with Cincy in 1959, but he would eventually reach the bigs for good, winning individual awards like the AL Cy Young, as well as driving Baltimore toward three straight World Series appearances. This earliest card of the future star captures his youthful optimism well.
