The various National Chicle card issues of 1933-36 - the Diamond Stars baseball set the football issue and the Sky Birds cards - all featured similar colorful art deco-inspired designs. The result is an extremely attractive series of historically significant cards depicting star athletes pilots and aviation pioneers. Presented here is an exceptional Sky Birds Master set featuring each card along with the entire Series of 144 subset easily one of the finest known sets in the hobby. Initially National Chicle intended for the Sky Birds issue to be a 48-card set as indicated on the reverse of the cards. However at some point the company elected to expand the set to 144 cards changing the backs of the second series cards to read "a series of 144 cards." Cards in this second series can be found with both backs (though the "48 card" backs are more rare). This set includes the complete second series with both back varieties making this a complete Master Set. Each card boasts spectacular color and clarity with strong corners and edges. Painstakingly assembled by an advanced collector who often upgrades within the grade by finding more attractive examples of cards to replace others with the same technical grade this is a very carefully curated consistently attractive set. With well over half the cards grading at EX/NM or better there are very few graded and registered Sky Birds sets with a higher numerical rating - and NO complete master sets.
