Hall of Fame infielder Nellie Fox lacks his usual wad of chewing tobacco for 1960 Topps, perhaps to better show off new, TV-friendly shoulder numbers Chicago added to their uniforms as fans tuned into more network broadcasts during the 1950s. Fox played well in the 1959 World Series, where millions saw that big, friendly digit, despite his White Sox losing to L.A. in six games. It took years of growing appreciation of his excellent hitting and fielding for the Veterans Committee to bestow posthumous induction to Cooperstown in 1997. The PSA NM-MT 8 grade reflects front centering a bit south and two touched corners.
