This PSA MINT 9 ranks among the best examples of a terrific 1960 Topps set, a tribute to the original collector’s eye for quality. Each card from their collection offered in our auction ranks in the top tier and this clean, beautiful single is no exception. The #571 shows just one higher!
The losing season described on this card back was a 14-15 record that included an All-Star appearance and AL pennant for his White Sox, so it is hard to imagine that Billy Pierce felt true disappointment. He did indeed recover the following year by cutting his losses to seven and leading Southsiders with 14 wins. He still ranks in the top five all-time for franchise victories with 186, a number that few modern hurlers can approach for an entire career, let alone a single team.
