Francis "Shag" Shaughnessy's impact on professional sports lasted well beyond his nine games as a major league outfielder. He spent many years playing for minor league teams and appears here as a Roanoke Tiger with an Old Mill Southern League back. After retirement as a player, Shag oversaw baseball organizations for decades and his business innovations included one of the earliest MLB expansion plans to cover America coast-to-coast, with the proposal for regional winners to face off in a seeded playoff system.
