"Jumping Joe" Dugan won a trio of World Series titles with New York, including one as the reliable glove at third for their famed 1927 "Murderer's Row." He appears on E220 with a Red Sox team designation, not long before the backroom deal that brought Dugan to New York, a swap so notorious in its day that it inspired baseball's 1924 prohibition on trades within the same league.
This SGC 2 GD grade reflects its corner wear, 25/75 centering, and slight print tilt. Their current population report shows just six total Dugan cards graded.
Our current auction features several E220 "National Caramel" singles. This set features some of the best card photography of that era and its accepted 1921-23 range reflects when players appeared on their named teams. Joe played for Boston in the first half of 1922, so his card dates to that window or soon after. The set followed a phased release in the Pennsylvania-Ohio region and "National Caramel" backs prove somewhat tougher to find today than related E121 "American Caramel" or E210 "York Caramel" backs.
