Collection of raw cards from Fleer Gum's 1959 "Ted Williams" and 1960 "Baseball Greats" sets. Key cards include one Babe Ruth from each set, as well as 1960 cards of Nap Lajoie, Grover Cleveland Alexander, Lefty Grove, Pie Traynor, and Tris Speaker.
Fleer made its mark for this era by signing Ted to an exclusive contract, guaranteeing his final years as a player appeared under their logo. The 1959 set features Ted on all 80 cards, many alongside famous teammates, opponents, and executives. Their 1960 set expanded to include significant retired players and members of the front office, such as the serious-minded Commissioner Landis and former owner Clark Griffith.
By design, almost every card from these sets feature at least one Hall of Fame inductee. Of those pictured from this lot, just Bobo Newsom and Paul Derringer missed that honor.
Collection includes 1959 Fleer Ted Williams cards that appear to range from G-VG with one or two in PR condition. Of the 1960 Fleer Baseball Greats included most fall in the VG-EX to EX range with some slightly better and some lesser. A complete list of cards included is as follows: 1959 Fleer Ted Williams: 2, 10, 14, 16, 17, 25, 31, 42, 48, 61, 62, 78; 1960 Fleer Baseball Greats: 1, 3, 5, 7 (2), 8, 9, 10 (2), 15, 16, 18, 33, 40, 43, 59, 60, 64, 65, 66, 70, 77.
