Leaf printed several large, paper-thin premiums of baseball legends for their 1949 baseball set, often placing them in the bottom of a box of packs. They hoped this would encourage kids to buy more, since the last pack buyer could claim the large, colorful photo as a bonus.

This "blue background" premium is by far the toughest of three different versions Leaf printed for Ruth, with just three total graded by PSA. Its PR 1(MK) grade reflects the penciled name on its reverse, which does little to detract from the strong front image. The shadowing under Babe's cap appears to be from its original printing and the piece has otherwise survived well, with scant evidence of the decades in-between! This provides a chance at a Ruth item otherwise little-seen in our hobby.
