Exceptionally interesting piece of photographic artwork used to create the 1948 Exhibit card of "Wee Willie" Keeler. The one-of-a-kind piece features a heavily retouched photographic image of Keeler measuring just over 5" x 8" and mounted onto a heavily-notated 5" x 9 1/4" pasteboard. The background of the image appears to have been touched out (though portions of the image remain particularly along the left edge). Keeler's name has been hand-lettered and registration marks have been applied in pencil. Affixed to the reverse is a label containing printer's instructions including the number of cards "up" on a print sheet ("8 up as usual"). A tremendous piece of collecting history a unique piece shedding light on the Exhibit printing process and also featuring original artwork of one of the deadball era's greatest players.
