Bob Coyne was a popular sports cartoonist for nearly half a century, producing cartoons for the Boston Herald American, Boston Post, and Boston Record. This attractive original cartoon dates to April 13-15 of 1936, referring to a postponed Opening Game, as weather issues plagued Boston in this time period, interfering with Opening Day and a Red Sox/Bees "City Series" preface to the season.
The cartoon, which is drawn on board measuring approximately 18" x 15 1/2", chronicles "Hair-Raising Curtain-Raisers!" - a number of Opening Day pitching achievements of the early 1900s. Mounted on an ivory-colored matte and framed to a finished size of 25" x 24", the piece itself is in GOOD condition but displays very well, with editorial notes throughout. Some staining is evident at the top-right corner, and overall soiling is apparent as well, with a tear at the bottom-right edge.
