Incredible piece of oversized photographic artwork used to produce the 1925-31 Exhibit card of Hall of Fame outfielder Tris Speaker. Measuring approximately 5 1/2" x 8 3/8" the black and white photograph has been pasted onto paper and again onto heavy board measuring just slightly larger than the photo itself. Some very modest wear is exhibited on the surface along with a pencil notation on the reverse. Applied to the photo is hand-painted lettering along with some additional enhancements - darkening of the edges of the home plate area some added definition to Speaker's face and touching out of the Washington Senators insignia from the right arm of Speaker's uniform (Speaker played for Washington in 1927 but Philadelphia in 1928; he is identified on the card as being with Philadelphia). Oddly enough the "W" on Speakers cap was not touched out. A beautiful one-of-a-kind piece of original artwork used to produce a key card more than 80 years ago.
