Arlie Latham played 17 seasons from 1880 through 1899 receiving two additional plate appearances in four games with the New York Giants at the age of 49. Nicknamed "The Dude" more than a century before The Big Lebowski Latham learned baseball from soldiers returning from the Civil War. The first man from New Hampshire to play in the big leagues Latham was known as a bench jockey taunting opposing pitchers. Latham who also served as third base coach was so animated in his bench jockeying that Baseball established coaches' boxes just to keep him in one place. Latham died on November 29 1952 at the age of 92 years old. This postcard was signed and dated by Latham on September 24 1952 his age "92 1/2 yrs. old" written below the date. Just two months after signing this card Latham would be gone. Encapsulated and authenticated by PSA/DNA.
