Issued in 1910 by the Texas Gum Company, the E105 series was a 50-card set that shares its checklist with the E92 series of cards, with an attractive, green ad on the reverse. Printed on unusually thin paper stock, it is theorized that many of the cards were folded vertically so that they could be inserted into the gum packs. Many of the surviving examples are found with horizontal creases down the center. The cards are particularly scarce today, and are quite a condition rarity as well.
Interestingly-cut card of Germany Schaefer, miscut along the top edge of the image, which has resulted in the "MC" qualifier assessed by PSA. The cut appears almost as a rough cut, as one would see with 1950s and 1960s Topps issues. The image itself is reasonably clean, with some minor surface wrinkles that are difficult to see. It should be noted that the card is missing a red color pass; typical examples of this card are far more orange. An astute collector has advised us that the card once resided in an AUTHENTIC holder but has had scrapbook paper removed from the back, improving the appearance considerably on both back and front, as the card lies flat and is less wrinkled. Regardless, an interesting print anomaly and a rare card from an important set.
