Large format Type I photograph depicting 19-year-old rookie outfielder, Mickey Charles Mantle at his home. Behind The Mick rests a framed photo of Merlyn Johnson, Mantle's soon-to-be fiancée who would marry the future Hall of Famer in December of that year. A brand new discovery as part of the Durham Find of Vintage Baseball Photography, this fresh to the hobby photo measures a full 8" x 10" with near-flawless image quality. Excellent overall condition with a visible crease running horizontally across the surface, just underneath Mantle's right arm. Captioning applied at top of edge of verso attributes the image to 5/24/1951, only 32 games into the young Mantle's career. "Sisto" appears next to the applied date stamping, which we believe to be in reference to longtime New York Times photographer, Ernie Sisto. Authenticated and encapsulated as a Type I photo by PSA/DNA.
