Produced by the Max Rigot Selling Company of Chicago this enormous
panoramic postcard (measuring nearly two feet across by 5 1/4" high)
celebrates Chicago's "new" ballpark - White Sox Park. The Rigot company
issued several different postcards of similar size and subject matter
with this one presenting a panoramic view of the ballfield from the
left-field grandstand.
The card's extraordinary size obviously
makes it susceptible to wear; this example exhibits the expected corner and edge wear on the center and right panels, with the left panel experiencing significant staining and corner loss. While the lower quarter of the left panel is only slightly faded with some damage to the lower left corner, the rest of the panel is heavily soiled, bleeding slightly into the upper left corner of the middle panel, where the two meet. The left panel's top left corner is missing, with foxing along the left edge. About an inch from the right crease of the left panel, a crease begins at the top border and travels directly south, roughly halfway through the card.
The right panel is slightly faded toward the outer edges, with an errant mark from a blue ink pen in the lower right corner. The top right and bottom right corners of that panel are also experiencing some damage, though ultimately the piece exhibits exceptional eye appeal
despite the significant wear. This example is still easily suitable for framing and would
make an outstanding display piece.
