Frank Sylvester "Silver" Flint
played for Chicago's National League franchise (primarily known as the White Stockings, at the time) from 1879 through 1889. He was mostly a catcher, but played some outfield earlier in his career, and some first base later in his career to keep his bat in the lineup. Flint has five different poses in
the N172 set. This issue depicts the Chicago catcher standing, with his hands at his hips, looking directly at the camera.
Centering is east on the canvas with rounded corners and edge chipping, particularly on the right and top. While there is some light snow on the image, Flint is clearly visible, as is his wonderfully period appropriate uniform, cross hatches and all up and down the front of his jersey, neatly tied in a bow at his collar. Some staining on the back does not affect the front, but there is one spot of stain just to the left of Flint, about waist high.
