Thomas P. "Oyster" Burns played for Brooklyn from 1888 through 1895, serving primarily as an outfielder, but spending some time at Shortstop and at Third Base, as well. In 1890, he led the National League with 13 home runs and 128 RBI for the Bridegrooms, playing in 119 games. Burns has five different
cards in
the N172 set. This example shows Burns in a dark uniform, holding a bat over his right shoulder at the plate, ready to strike a ball which is in frame
The image is clear and the printing is dark with great contrast. The dark colors of Burns' uniform (from his jersey, to his belt, to his pants, to his socks, to his shoes) are all distinctly separate from one another. A large crease runs horizontally across the card, about 1/5 of the way up from the bottom. The corners are rounded and the edges are chipped, but the
scarcity of this
example far outweighs any
aesthetic
issues of this highly sought-after issue.
