While the 1906-07 Sporting Life team composite postcard of the St. Louis Browns does feature Hall of Famer Bobby Wallace it is the presence of catcher Branch Rickey and manager Jimmy McAleer that makes this postcard interesting to us. The importance of both men to the evolution of the game cannot be overstated as Rickey was eventually responsible for breaking baseball's color barrier and McAleer was instrumental in the establishment of the American League and later became the owner of the Boston Red Sox. The card itself has been graded FAIR 20 by SGC primarily due to a large and heavy crease that traverses the card as well as significant staining on the reverse but also due to its general wear. The images of Rickey McAleer and Wallace however are uninterrupted by the crase. Sportling Life composites are interesting cards and photos with this example featuring some of the most important figures in the history of the game.
