From the company that offered the long run of Zeenuts, which featured
PCL players, the set known as E135 offered 200 subjects but switched
focus to the National and American Leagues. Produced at a time when few
sets were being issued, it gave collectors and baseball fans on the West
Coast a look at players they had only read about in the newspapers or
the annual Spading guides.
Philadelphia's Amos Strunk
is the
subject
of this example, graded Poor 1 by SGC due to some paper loss on the reverse which does not affect the front. Centering is northeast on the canvas, but sharp corners and crisp edges far exceed their expectations on a card with this grade. Some light surface abrasions and faint soiling are not enough to detract from the eye appeal of this bright card. Regardless of the grade, the
scarcity of this issue far outweighs any perceived cosmetic flaws on
this example.
SGC has only ever graded 8 total examples of this E135,
with only five receiving a higher grade than the Poor 1 offered here of
Philadelphia's Amos Strunk.
