After just two seasons of his Hall of Fame career at this point, Lew Alcindor (who had yet to change his name to Kareem Abdul-Jabbar) had already won a Rookie of the Year Award and led his team to an NBA title.
This gorgeous 1971-72 Topps card of the Hall of Famer has wonderfully
era-appropriate fonts, colors, and designs. "The Big Dipper" stands in front
of a bright red background in his white Bucks uniform, though without a team name on the front. Topps was allowed to show the front of players’ jerseys when they said
the city name — “Phila,” for example, or “Milwaukee.” But Topps didn’t
have permission to show jerseys with team nicknames on them, like
“Celtics” or “Lakers” or, in this case, "Bucks." Graded EX+ 5.5
by SGC, the edges are sharp with some light wear to the corners, keeping this one from grading even higher than it already has.
