1957 was Ernie Banks' fifth year in the integrated Major Leagues, but he was
still only 26 years old. The following year would be the first of his
back-to-back MVP Awards. On card #55 of the 1957 Topps set, the young shortstop stands at the plate
in his crisp zipper-down Cubs uniform, the famous grip he used to hit 512 career home runs on full display. Beautifully framed by sharp corners and nice edges, the canvas is nearly perfectly centered. Some light soiling around the perimeter keeps this card from grading even higher than it already has.
