1957 was a banner year for Eddie Mathews. He was an All-Star for the fourth time in five years, he hit 30+ home runs for the fifth consecutive season (something he would do in each of the following four seasons, as well), and he finished 8th in MVP voting. He also helped lead the Braves to their first of back-to-back World Series appearances, winning the 1957 Series against the Yankees.
Card #250 in the 1957 Topps set features an extreme close up of the Braves Hall of Famer. This example has nice corners, despite a cut which leaves each of the side borders a little askew. While the edges are mostly nice, some light chipping along the bottom of each side keeps this card from grading even higher than it already has. Nevertheless, a wonderful example of the Hall of Famer, in a very important season in his illustrious career.
