While many collectors are familiar with the 3.5" x 5.5" B&W Hall of Fame plaque postcards issued by Albertype (1944-52), and Artvue (1953-55), their precursor and the original HOF plaque postcards are far more rare and sought after. Issued from 1939-43 and sold directly by the National Baseball Hall of Fame itself, the "Hall of Fame Sepia Postcards" (as listed in the Standard Catalog) featured a complete set of 35 subjects. The presented type 2 variation of Gehrig's sepia postcard is the first HOF postcard issued for "The Iron Horse" following his special December, 1939 election to the National Baseball Hall of Fame. Card displays some degree of wear at all four corners, with an obvious crease at upper-left. Handwriting that appears to be partially erased can be seen at the top on reverse. Despite any condition flaws card remains one of the single most desired HOF plaque postcards ever issued.
