The undisputed key to the nine-card 1953 Stahl-Meyer set and one of the most valuable of all the regional meat-related issues the Stahl-Meyer Mickey Mantle is one of the most desirable cards in the entire hobby. Issued in packages of Stahl-Meyer hot dogs in the New York area the set includes three players each from the Yankees Dodgers and Giants. The card fronts feature colorful photos with biographical information on the reverse the white-bordered cards featuring corners cut diagonally. Despite the non-sharp corners high-grade examples are very few and far betweein simply due to the method of distribution - most cards are prone to significant wear and staining. This card of Mantle has been graded PR 1 (MK) by PSA. The MK designation is due to some red ink markings along the right border which cover up some mild paper loss. The PR 1 grade encompasses significant wear at the corners and edges creasing and staining on the front and reverse. Despite all this however the image of Mantle is vibrant and clean perhaps the most attractive POOR condition example of a Stahl-Meyer card we have seen. One of the most sought-after postwar cards in the hobby a difficult and appealing card of postwar collecting's greatest icon.
