Frank Gilmore finished what he started. Not always well, but he almost always finished. Gilmore went 12-33 in three years with the Washington Nationals, completing 46 of the 47 games he started. Gilmore has five poses in
the N172 set. This issue depicts the Washington Pitcher with a ball in his right hand, which is held high above his head.
Centering is fantastic, with evenly distributed borders along the left, top, and right. The image itself is compelling, as well, giving this card lots of eye appeal. The unique uniform displays a "W" just above the waist line, different from the common placement higher on the chest as we have become accustomed to on a baseball uniform. Rounded corners with some creasing keep this card from grading higher, as does some light staining on the back which does not affect the front. Light edge chipping, particularly on the left side, is present, but the
scarcity of this example far outweighs any aesthetic issues of
this
highly sought-after issue.
