Charles "Charlie" Bastian was an infielder who primarily played
Second Base for Philadelphia's National League team from
1885 through 1888. He was a light hitter with a sub-.200 batting average over that span, so the choice to depict him here making solid contact with a pitch as his eyes are perfectly on the ball may not quite accurately represent who Bastian was as a player. Bastian has six different cards in the N172 set, each of them tough to find.
The
text is legible, and the image itself is also very nice. Centering is good, with just some slight diamond cutting. The (MK) qualifier here is due to some light
writing on the back of the card, which does not affect the
front. PSA has only ever graded 3 total examples of this 1887 N172 Old Judge, none of which are likely to have an image stronger than this.
