The 1934 R310 Butterfinger premiums were oversized photographs printed
on unbelievably thin almost newsprint stock and distributed with
Butterfinger candy bars. Due to the extreme lightweight paper they are
very susceptible to damage of all inds - it is common to find R310s
torn wrinkled or with pieces missing and many times due to their
large size (7 3/4" x 9 3/4") they are found with folds pinholes and
tape.
Hall of Famer Jimmie Foxx is the subject of this example. Foxx's iconic follow through is captured in great detail on this large format image as he watches a ball soar over the outfield fence in his gorgeous Philadelphia Athletics uniform. Foxx was fresh off one of the greatest seasons in the history of baseball in 1934, having won the 1933 Triple Crown with a .356 average, 48 home runs, and 163 RBI. 1934 was a bit of a down year for "Double X" as he only hit .334 with 44 home runs and 130 RBI, leading the majors with 111 walks.
Foxx was at the peak of his powers here, as is evidenced by the bulging muscles which are front and center in this image. The top left corner has some very light creasing and the top edge near that corner also has a minor imperfection. The top right corner exhibits some faint soiling, as well, but other than those minor imperfections, the corners and edges present wonderfully well. No pinholes, paper tears, tape, or major wrinkles or creases here. Just a beautiful image of one of the game's greatest hitters ever, in the absolute prime of his life and career.
Conservatively estimated at Good/Very Good.
