Important card from a curious issue distributed in 1910 on candy boxes
manufactured by the Geo. Davis Co and the P.R. Warren Co. The box
indicated that the card set featured 144 subjects, but just a few have
been discovered as of today. The cards are called "orange borders" by
collectors today, because the player images were surrounded by orange
borders. However, the "borders" were simply a part of the box, so there
is no true border definition.
This example of Philadelphia's Mickey Doolan was cut well enough to justify a numerical grade from PSA (many cards
receive AUTHENTIC grades due to miscuts), it remains important to note
that these cards did not actually have pre-defined borders, as the
orange background was simply a part of the candy box from which the card
was cut. Still, a numerical grade seems justified in this case, as
corner rounding and edge wear are visible. The (MK) qualifier comes from the words "National League" written on the otherwise blank back, which does not affect the front.
Of the 3 total examples of this 1910 Orange Borders Mickey Doolan card to have been graded by PSA, this is the only one to have received a numerical grade.
