Uniform Agreement governing the purchase of catcher Gordie Hinkle by the Boston Red Sox from Jersey City, the purchase made at the beginning of the 1935 season. Hinkle saw time as a backup catcher for Boston in 1934, playing in 27 games and batting .173. He was brought back to Boston in 1935 but did not play; his major league career ended with that short season of 1934, though he continued in the minors as a player and coach until 1948. From an athletic family, Hinkle's brother was football Hall of Famer Clarke Hinkle.
Of course the signature of Hall of Famer Eddie Collins is the draw here, a beautiful, oversized fountain pen signature. The paper is lightweight paper of the era, and Collins' signature truly stands out, but also encroaches on the printing above it (so it would not make a good cut signature, but works extremely well with this historical document intact).
