Beautiful photograph of the great Washington battery, as distributed on September 1, 1910 by the Sporting News as part of an issue that featured 100 different supplements distributed between 1909 and 1913. This offering has some condition issues, but is now safely protected in a PSA slab. Despite the creasing near the top center, edge wear, and the paper loss in two corners, this offering has tremendous eye appeal.

The details on this photo are spectacular, with the Hall of Fame pitcher listening intently as his catcher imparts some wisdom. Charles E. "Gabby" Street was Walter Johnson's primary catcher during the four years the two were teammates from 1908-1911. About his backstop, Johnson said, “Gabby was always jabberin,’ and he never let a pitcher take his mind off the game. When we got in a tight spot, Gabby was right out there to talk it over with me. He never let me forget a batter’s weakness.”

Note the leather strap on Street's catcher's glove, and the raised W sewn into the wool flannel on each of their chests, only possible due to the large format printing of this classic portrait. While the piece has some staining on the back, the image is still extremely presentable and would make for an excellent display. An outstanding document, particularly interesting to Washington or Johnson collectors.

PSA has only ever graded 13 total examples of this 1909-13 M101-2 Sporting News Supplement, with only eight receiving a higher grade than the Authentic offered here of Charles "Gabby" Street and Hall of Famer Walter Johnson.
