Rare Old Judge proof for which no corresponding N172 card exists, picturing Chicago Maroons utilityman John "Jack" Croghan (his last name misspelled on his N172 cards). Then by the Gehrig Studios of Chicago, the photo depicts Croghan posed against the same studio backdrop as several of his other Old Judge cards, though this pose is currently not catalogued. While strong detail is evident in the photo itself, the mount and photo both exhibit considerable soiling, with heavier corner wear at the right. Writing on the reverse identifies the player (whose name is spelled properly), with additional notations and a stamp present. In general, proofs of Chicago Maroons players are very rare, and highly coveted by 19th Century collectors.
