Bowman's 1955 TV set features a smiling Willie Mays, fresh off his World Series heroics from the previous October. At a time when Topps was reusing many images
from year to year, Bowman featured some fine original lens work in their
final baseball set, and this example is no exception. Among the top players of all time, the interest in Willie Mays collectibles has grown even stronger since his recent passing.
This card is absolutely stunning, with great corners and crisp edges. Bold, bright colors with both the television and the image on the screen give this one tremendous eye appeal, and the printing on the back has remained gorgeously dark, as well. The (OC) qualifier comes from the centering being north on the canvas as you look at it horizontally, as it is intended to be viewed. Despite that minor flaw, this is an extraordinary example seldom seen with this sort of visual appeal.
PSA has graded 3,132 total examples of this 1955 Bowman, with only TEN receiving a higher grade than the NM-MT 8 (OC) offered here of Hall of Famer Willie Mays.
