As the career and collectibles of Jackie Robinson begin to attract more and more attention in the hobby, collectors have begun to look beyond his conventionally-accepted 1948 Leaf "rookie card" to the multitude of more scarce or difficult issues of the same era. Robinson's Bond Bread, Swell, Parade Sportive, and Exhibits issues have continued to skyrocket in price. This, his 1947 Brooklyn Dodgers team issue, is a rookie issue produced and distributed in a photo pack by the team at Ebbets Field. A large-format (6" x 9") photo, even examples with the finest eye appeal are subject to lower technical grades, as the photos were printed on thin paper stock that is easily damaged. Additionally, the team-issued photos are often found with pinholes, tape stains, and other form of mounting-related damage.
This example, despite being graded GOOD+ 2.5 by PSA, presents as EX-MT or better. Inside the PSA holder, any flaws are extremely difficult to discern, and it takes a close and careful examination to discover the flaw in this beauty. Despite that, a wonderful example, one of the earliest collectibles of the great Jackie Robinson.
