The first 10 cards of the "Famous People" W512 strip cards series featured baseball players, though the full set includes 50 miscellaneous sports figures and celebrities from the late 1920s. Strip cards are generally found in off grades due to how they were distributed - largely to children on strips that were meant to be manually cut into cards. To find an uncut strip, or an uncut panel, in any type of condition is very rare.

The 25-card uncut panel offered here features the most important card in the set - or any other set in which he appeared - Babe Ruth. The Ruth card appears at the upper-left corner of the panel, and despite some surface discoloration and a bit of edge chipping that encroaches into the top border of the card, the presentation is extremely strong. Ruth's illustration is known to be based upon a famous 1920 portrait captured by Paul Thompson's photo syndicate and have added an image to this listing for reference purposes. Individual five card strips including Ruth sell for thousands of dollars; presented here is the entire sheet, featuring 25 cards, fully one half of the set with one half of the baseball players.  Seldom found as a complete sheet, this is an extremely desirable piece.

Included:

#6 Babe Ruth (HOF), #7 Everett Scott, #8 Frank Frisch (HOF), #9 Rogers Hornsby (HOF), #10 Dazzy Vance (HOF), #16 Anna Q. Nilsson, #17 Helene Chadwick, #18 Eva Novak, #19 Norma Talmadge, #20 Corinne Griffith, #26 Jackie Coogan, #27 Lon Chaney, #28 Richard Barthelmess, #29 Thomas Meighan, #30 Douglas Fairbanks, #36 W.T. "Bill" Tilden, #37 Helen Wainwright, #38 Johnny Weismuller, #39 Walter Hagen, #40 Aileen Riggin, #46 Luis Firpo, #47 Geo. Carpentier, #48 Benny Leonard, #49 Abe Goldstein, and #50 Charley Ledoux

The bottom edge especially has some damage with missing names at the bottoms of cards 47 through 50. The top corners each also have some paper loss, meaning the Babe Ruth in the top left corner and the Dazzy Vance in the top right are affected. Overall, the condition is Poor, though some individual cards on the inside of the sheet look fantastic. A truly unique opportunity to own this bright, colorful, and significant piece commemorating some of the most famous people on the planet a century ago.
