The 1921 National Caramel set featured 120 cards of 115 different
players, and was issued over a two-year span to eager kids across a
large swath of America. The player selection includes an excellent
roster of Hall of Famers.
Chicago's Dick Kerr
is the
subject
of this example, graded VG 3 by SGC due to soft corners and edges, along with some faint soiling on both the front and back. Centering is northeast on the canvas, with minor diamond cutting which leaves the top left corner just a hair higher than the right.
Kerr's main claim to fame is being one of the "Clean Sox" in the tainted 1919 World Series. The White Sox pitcher went 2-0 with two complete games, including a shutout, throwing 19 innings while only giving up 3 earned runs.
The
scarcity of this issue far outweighs any cosmetic flaws on
this example. SGC has only ever graded 6 total examples of this E220,
with NONE receiving a higher grade than the VG 3 offered here of Chicago's Dick Kerr.
