The T206 set is, of course, the most widely collected of all prewar card issues, with good reason: there is no shortage of different ways to collect the cards.  In the case of a small but powerful group we are proud to feature in this auction, one collector focused less on the content of the cards, and more on the cards themselves. Concerned with what many feel is an epidemic of card alteration in the hobby, our consignor looked for cards with exceptionally wide borders, an indication that the card edges and corners were natural, and not subject to trimming. We are thrilled to present them here, a fascinating grouping of cards with an unusual appearance, including many of the issue's key cards.

Few cards in the hobby have been as consistently hot as the green background T206 Cobbs; for some time it seemed that a new pricing record was set with each sale. Such astronomical prices realized are quickly pricing some collectors out of the market, when it comes to attractive specimens. Seldom does an example hit the market that appears stronger than the assigned grades, as collectors continuously resubmit lower-grade examples hoping to move their cards into the highest holders possible.

This example, however, has had no such resubmission, remaining in an older SGC holder. Strong eye appeal is evident, the majority of the condition issues related to the centering being far south on the canvas and some light soiling on Cobb's left shoulder. While there is very strong print registration, the card does exhibit a few minor technical flaws that reduce the numerical grade. However, it is an extraordinarily attractive card for the grade.
