Cornelius F. "Con" Daily (erroneously spelled Daley on the card) played 86 games for Boston's National League team between 1886 and 1887. 85 of those games saw Daily behind the plate, but he did play one game in the outfield, as well. Daily has five different
cards in
the N172 set. This
issue - which depicts the Boston catcher with his hands on his knees as he waits for an approaching ball - has the lowest graded population.
The centering is west on the canvas, and far south, with the bottom half of the bottom line of text being cut off from the card above this on the sheet. An 1887 card from the number series, the card boasts a striking image, with Daily exhibiting incredible concentration as the ball crosses the plate. It appears that in this case the irregular cut was enough to leave this card with a grade of Authentic.
