The 1969 Topps football issue was printed in two series that were styled slightly differently from one another. The first series cards have no borders, with bright-colored backgrounds that extend directly to the edges of the card. As is the case with other Topps issues with colored borders, the cards are particularly condition-sensitive, and high-grade examples are very difficult to find. The second series are similar in design, but with white borders that extend around all four edges, the colorful backgrounds contained inside the borders. While those cards are less susceptible to chipping, they are often found significantly off-center.
Offered here is a complete set, including both series. Largely midgrade, the cards appear clean with honest handling, with few significant condition issues beyond the aforementioned chipping, centering, and some light corner wear. A technical breakdown would be approximately 5% EX-MT, 19% EX, 40% VG-EX, 33% VG, and 3% GOOD or lesser. A breakdown of the issue's keys would be #25 Unitas (VG), #26 Piccolo (VG), #51 Sayers (G), #69 Alworth (VG), #75 Meredith (VG-EX), #100 Namath (VG), #120 Csonka (EX), #139 Butkus (VG-EX), #150 Tarkenton (VG-EX), #161 Griese (VG-EX), #215 Starr (VG), #232 Blanda (EX-MT). An outstanding midgrade complete run of the condition-sensitive 1969 Topps football issue. 263 cards total.
