Due to their method of distribution (labels affixed to the end of bread bags), the 1952 Tip Top Bread issue is extremely difficult to find, and unbelievably condition sensitive.  Rather than hope for examples with high numerical grades, one simply hopes for an example where the entire label is intact, as they are typically found torn or still attached to the plastic bread bag in places.  The unnumbered set consisted of 48 different labels, with an advertising message printed on each.  The company issued a large, folding sheet on which to display the labels, but despite the ease of display, surviving examples are exceedingly scarce, with just 323 graded by PSA.

Presented here is the unquestionable key to the issue, that of Mickey Mantle.  One of just 20 examples graded by PSA (SGC has graded just three), virtually all of which are graded POOR or AUTHENTIC (PSA has assessed two FAIR and one GOOD), this is an extremely strong example for the grade.  While wrinkling and soiling is apparent, the label remains intact, with very little chipping to the red edges.  An extraordinary specimen, this is one of Mantle's earlier collectibles, far more of a rarity than his 1951 or 1952 Topps and Bowman issues, highly prized among collectors of the Commerce Comet.
