Melvin Thomas Ott led the National League in home runs six times, amassing 511 round trippers over the course of his 22 seasons with the New York Giants. Batting from the left side, Ott was known for his unique batting style that allowed the 5' 7" Hall of Famer to generate immense power by loading a high leg kick, and dropping his hands low, before attacking the baseball. Ott guided his Giants to three National League pennants (1933, 1936, 1937), and a World Series championship in 1933. According to the affixed paper caption on verso, this fantastic image of Ott showing off his batting form was captured late in 1934 while the Giants were atop the National League. Faint credit stamping has been applied beneath the paper caption along with a date stamp of Oct. 11, 1934. There is a chip missing from the lower-right border of this photo that otherwise presents beautifully. Includes full LOA from PSA confirming Type 1 status of this example.
