6" x 4" x 3" tin once housing Mayo's smoking and chewing tobacco.  Known among collectors today for the football and baseball cards of the late 19th Century, the tins produced by the company to house their product have been quite collectible.  The piece is hinged at the reverse and opens and closes cleanly (a note in this space for the first few hours of the auction that suggested the lid was not operable was an inaccurate note left for our photographer and not intended for description purposes).  Some wear is evident on the piece, the dark blue and gold printing having worn away in places, the oxidation creating an attractive patina.
