Young backstop Lawrence Peter "Yogi" Berra poses at the Yankees St. Petersburg spring training facility in this important Type 1 photograph. Captured sometime during the late 1940's, Berra is pictured in an action pose that would become the classic illustration utilized for his 1950 Bowman #46 card. Photo appears to have been slightly trimmed around the perimeter from it's original 8" x 10" dimensions and currently measures 7.25" x 9.25" overall. A small tear runs vertically from the bottom edge towards Yogi's mask and has been reenforced with clear tape on verso which otherwise remains blank. Collecting source images for outstanding vintage baseball cards continues to be a highly popular segment of the hobby; with massive crossover appeal between card and photo devotees. To further satisfy collectors from both camps, elsewhere in this auction we are proud to offer the highest graded SGC example of the 1950 Bowman Yogi Berra card inspired by this very image, graded MINT 9. The presented photograph has been authenticated and encapsulated as a Type 1 photo by PSA/DNA.
