Outstanding art print designed by J.C. Leyendecker. Joseph Christian Leyendecker was a German-American illustrator considered to be one of the foremost illustrators of the early 20th Century producing more than 300 covers for the Saturday Evening Post alone. Leyendecker created advertisements for some of the best-known American institutions notably Ivory Soap Procter & Gamble the US Army Navy and Marines the Boy Scouts of America Chesterfield Cigarettes and more. Rare and valuable poster measures 20" x 24" and appears to have been trimmed on all four sides at some point. The design is gorgeous and colorful a wonderful display. The Leyendecker baseball poster offered in our last auction was surrounded by a black border with a caption at the bottom and we surmise that this example once had a similar black border prior to having been trimmed; Regardless the design is spectacular a rare and desirable lithographic art poster.
