One of the more difficult subjects in the N172 issue, Bobby Lowe is pictured here in what would be card number 281-4, a difficult enough Old Judge that the authors of The Photographic Baseball Cards of Goodwin and Company were unable to secure a plate specimen to show the pose (it appears as "Image Not Available" in the book).  After breaking in with Boston in 1890, Lowe had a 19-year career with Boston, Chicago, and Detroit (with one game in Pittsburgh in 1904), batting .273 lifetime.  One of Lowe's career highlights, however, occurred on Memorial Day of 1894, however, when he became the first player to hit four home runs in a game.

SGC has assessed the card as GOOD+ 2.5, but its visual appeal far surpasses the grade.  The image is clean and crisp, the photo centered just to the right on the mount, which advertises J. Brown studios of Milwaukee.  Some minor toning is evident on the reverse.  A desirable cabinet photo, an Old Judge "Proof" featuring one of the game's early stars.
