c.1916-20 original photograph of Chicago White Sox third baseman Fred McMullin. Easily the most obscure player of the bunch, with his original photos in high demand from collectors, Fred McMullin remains one of eight men remembered as the "Black Sox" for conspiring to throw the 1919 World Series. Despite acquittal at pubic trail, McMullin and his co-conspirators were permanently banned from organized baseball for life in 1921 by then-commissioner Judge Kenesaw Mountain Landis. The presented 8" x 10" photo depicts McMullin in a classic batting pose during a sun soaked day at the Polo Grounds. Remnants of clear tape remain affixed near all four corners which each exhibit varying degrees of typical wear from storage. Charles Conlon's personal credit stamping appears at center of verso with his handwritten identifier of McMullin towards the top and his "Conlon Photo" signature along the bottom.
