Colorful example of the beautiful Ewell Blackwell issue from the 1948 Leaf set. Centered south on the canvas, the blue and yellow split background have remained bright and bold. The nameplate shows off Leaf's goofy printing process. Sharp edges and corners give this example terrific eye appeal, with a minor print defect in the blue portion of the background keeping this one from grading even higher than it already has. Only 18 examples graded by PSA have ever received a higher grade than the NM 7 offered here. The jolt of color and photographic images really made this set stand out, both at the time of issue, and today.
