We have made the decision to break up an EXTRAORDINARY 1963 Topps set - the #4 Master Set on the PSA Set Registry. The 1963 set is a particularly difficult set to complete in high grade due to Topps' poor quality control in the era which resulted in considerable print defects. The large and colorful border at the bottom simultaneously lends a distinctive design element and a condition challenge, as they are extremely susceptible to chipping and wear. 

The example offered here is card #190, Minnie Minoso, graded NM-MT+ 8.5. In terms of calendar years, 1963 was the exact midway point of Minoso's Hall of Fame career. The Cuban Comet broke in with the New York Cubans in 1946, 17 years before 1963. He also appeared in two games for the 1980 Chicago White Sox, 17 years after 1963.

His 1963 Topps entry shows an extreme close up, with this example exhibiting brilliantly bold colors. This card has few flaws, but the ones it does have are nearly all in or around the red bottom border, as it common with this set. Corner and edge chipping, light snow, and a minor registration issue where it meets the yellow inset circle. Some faint staining at the top border keep this card from grading even higher than it already has.

Only 4 examples graded by PSA have ever received a higher grade than the NM-MT+ 8.5 offered here.
