We have made the decision to break up an EXTRAORDINARY 1963 Topps set - the #4 Master Set on the PSA Set Registry. The 1963 set is a particularly difficult set to complete in high grade due to Topps' poor quality control in the era which resulted in considerable print defects. The large and colorful border at the bottom simultaneously lends a distinctive design element and a condition challenge, as they are extremely susceptible to chipping and wear.

The example offered here is card #390, Henry Aaron, graded NM-MT 8. It's hard to pick out what the best season in Henry Aaron's historic career might have been, but 1963 is certainly in the discussion. He led the league in Runs (121), Home Runs (44, his career high), RBI (130), SLG (.586), OPS (.977), OPS+ (179), and Total Bases (370) while finishing 3rd in MVP voting and being named an All Star for the 9th consecutive season. He also had more than 200 hits and a career-high 31 stolen bases!

His 1963 Topps card shows the 29-year-old confidently looking into the camera, clearly aware of his greatness. Centering is east and south on the canvas, with great edges and three nice corners. The fourth corner, the bottom right, is sharp but is a victim of light color loss from the green bottom border, common to the set. A slight registration issue of that green border and the orange circle inset help explain the card's technical grade, along with some vertical line print defects most noticeable in the background upon close inspection.

Even still, only 51 of the more than 3,300 examples graded by PSA have ever received a higher grade than the NM-MT 8 offered here.
