There are two different Harry McIntire cards included in the T206 set. The first version lists his team solely as Brooklyn, while this version lists him as playing for Brooklyn and Chicago. One of those cards in the T206 set which just gets the sky in the background right, this issue's use of color is beautiful and realistic. From the grass and Harry's Brooklyn cap and uniform, to the clouds and sky, the eye appeal of this card is off the charts. A couple corners show some softness, and there is some slight diamond cutting.
Two pen tip sized stains along the left border are the only other reasons for the technical grade, as this card is largely clean, including the back which only shows mild tobacco staining, common to the set. McIntire's last name is misspelled on the card, and on the PSA label, both errors which went uncorrected. PSA has
only ever graded 24 total examples of this Old Mill back version of the
McIntire, with
only 5 receiving a
higher grade than the VG-EX 4.5 offered here.
John Reid "Harry" McIntire pitched 9 seasons in the National League, leading the league in hit batsmen three different times. He lost 15 or more games in each of his first five seasons, losing 20 or more in three of those. After his fifth season (1909), he was traded to Chicago where he pitched for 3 seasons. He went 13-9 in 1910, helping the Cubs reach the World Series where they lost to the Philadelphia Athletics.
